The Worshipful Company of Musicians: Our Living Musical Archive
Come and join us for our Christmas seminar on Thursday 6th December 2018 with nibbles, wine and music, 18.00 – 20.00 (doors open at 17.30)
Can you identify the pictures in this post? They will all feature in Paul Campion’s presentation!
The Worshipful Company of Musicians, which received its Charter from King James 1 in 1604, is one of the ancient Guilds of the City of London.
This talk will tell the fascinating story of the major digitisation project which, over the last five years, has led to the creation of an extensive Archival website, www.wcomarchive.org.uk.
Some of the Company’s special treasures will be illustrated and stories of musical composition, heroism in war and important events from the recent and distant past will be told; with recorded music illustrating the talk.
Paul Campion is Honorary Archivist and a Pastmaster of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. He has run the Piano and Music Department in Harrods of Knightsbridge, written books on the singer Kathleen Ferrier and Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and worked with a number of record and CD companies on their issues of opera and song.
Paul and his colleagues has worked on the creation of the remarkable Archival website that has proved a source of valuable information for musicians, historians and researchers alike.
Paul has lectured throughout the UK; on a number of international cruises and in the USA.
