Summer 2019

Join us at our two wonderful events this July!

AfL Summer Soirée – Keats House

Join us as we gather for our annual Summer Soirée, this year hosted at Keats House in Hampstead!

A warm welcome awaits us from Keats House Curator Rob Shakespeare: he will tell us about the house, Keats’ life and escort us around the house and displays of the extensive collections.

The Keats House collection is comprised of an enormous variety of Keats related material including books, paintings and everyday household items which might have been used in the house at the time. Some of the original material includes letters written by Keats, books in which Keats wrote some of his poetry, and the engagement ring given by Keats to his fiancée, Fanny Brawne.

Musical entertainment by the Gibbs Classical Quartet.

Advance booking is essential.

Maps, Minutes and Miscellany: a Museum Archive

Wednesday 24th June 2019, 18.00 – 19.30 (doors open at 17.30)
Huntley Room, London Metropolitan Archives.

Gunnersbury Park Museum, a local history museum serving the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, celebrates its 90th birthday in October. For the first time in the museum’s history it has a professional archivist working through its eclectic archival collections, which span everything from meeting minutes reporting the sudden death by lightning of sheep hired to keep the park in order, to ‘How to Stalk’ – instructions for local residents on how to tackle potential invading German soldiers during the Second World War.

Senior Curator Julia Tubman will present some of the archival gems unearthed over the last year, on behalf of archivist Kathryn Rooke.

Advance booking is essential. Please book your place through Eventbrite or by telephoning Alex Fisher (AfL Secretary) on 020 7594 8818.

Free for AfL members, £6 for non-members.
